Dirt Shoot Out #9 & #10

This weekend (Oct 2-3, 2010), CQMA hosted Dirt Shoot Outs #9 and #10. This weekend was Jonathan's third week in Junior Honda and it also showed me what a great driver Jonathan is and will be.

On Saturday, Jonathan started 2nd in the first heat. He quickly made a pass for first and took off. He had great re-starts and took his first Jr Honda checkered flag! To make that win even a little sweeter, it was his first win on the dirt track! He started last in the second heat and came in 5th. He made it to the A Main where he ended 6th. He had a couple calls against him however he did what he needed to do to make a pass but this time it didn't work out in his favor. He was able to keep up with the other drivers and came in 6th.

On Sunday, Jonathan started on the pole and lead for about three laps. Jonathan didn't have a good re-start after a caution flag, and was passed by the #2 and #3 cars. With the #2 and #3 cars being good, experienced drivers, Jonathan maintained his third position and came in third in a field of seven great cars! He made it straight to the A Main again!! Making it to the A Main in a competative class is quite the feat. Jonathan has only been racing Jr Honda for 3 weeks (five race days) and has already made three A Main events. Jonathan started on the pole in the A Main however didn't have good luck. He lead for about three laps until he spun when being passed. Jonathan got the call (agreed) and was put at the back. Jonathan worked his way back up to fifth position. He was making a clean pass in the straight way under the tower for fourth position when the car came down on Jonathan and both cars wrecked into the wall. Jonathan broke the front radius rod and had to go the pits. This put him at the back again with 8 laps to go. Jonathan came in last. Despite his finish in the main event, Jonathan showed what a great driver he is and will be. Not only can he keep up with the experienced drivers, he is already competative. He will continue to learn from his mistakes and also learn from the best drivers in his class. Only two more races left of the season then a much needed break.
