AQMA Club Races #4 & #5

Club Race #4 (Saturday,6/12/10):
Jonathan raced at AQMA and qualified 2nd out of 7 cars. In the first heat race, Jonathan started in 6th position. He made fantastic passes and drove clean. Jonathan won the checker flag!

Jim, Jonathan's dad, had to leave after the first race due to a family emergency. Jonathan and I were left to race. Jonathan started in 7th position due to his first place win in the heat. During the practice laps, he was pushed in the wall, where he did a slow flip to his side. Since that was the first time that happened to him, I thought he would be shaken up. Jonathan was actually laughing and went on to race as if nothing happened. He quickly passed his way up to second and then eventually to first place. He was racing hard with his racing buddy, Jeremiah Zeiter. They looked like like pros! It was exciting to see them race that hard and pass back and forth. Jonathan had the lead coming into turn one, and Zeiter held a low line. They crashed in turn one and both ended in a hard hit in the wall at only 5 laps to go! Zeiter complained of pain in his shoulder and walked off the track. Jonathan continued racing but was called with a "charge yellow" so he was put in the back. Jonathan passed his way up to a 4th place finish. Even though he didn't get the checker, I was completely impressed with his racing skills during that race. He made smart moves.

Club Race #5 (Sunday, 6/13/10):
Jonathan qualified a little slow today and was 4th out of 8 cars. Jonathan desperatly needed new tires however we couldn't get them on in time after we purchased them from a dealer at the track. I know that played a roll in his qual time. Jonathan started in 3rd position. He quickly made passes up to first where he ran for 13 laps. Morgan McFarland came out of no where and passed him to take the lead with only 5 laps left. Two other cars wrecked so a yellow caution flag came out. This put Jonathan in good position to take the lead as he is awesome at restarts. Sure enough, Jonathan took the lead back when the green came out. Around they went when Morgan tried to pass again in turn one. Johnny held his position and they both bumped coming out of turn 2 but Johnny took a good lead. Morgan caught back up with 1/2 a lap to go but Jonathan stuck it a photo finish checker. That was close!!! Great Racing!

Jim had to leave again due to a family emergency so just Jonathan and I were left again. It took a long time to get the novices lined up and during this process, Jonathan lost his rear engine gear hub and the bolts had been stripped out. Jonathan was done before the green even came out. Jonathan took it like a champ and we sat in the bleachers and routed our friends on.

What a great weekend! Jonathan took 2 checker flags!
