The first heat Jonathan started in 3rd but got a "charge yellow" when he was blocking a car from passing and caused a spin out for the other car. Jonathan was put at the end of the pack. With a caution on the final lap, the restart was a "green, white, checker" and Jonathan made an awesome pass on the restart and passed 3 cars in one shot!! He ended 4th. Even though he got the charge yellow, he made up for it in that final lap. That kid can pass!!!
The second heat Jonathan got another "charge yellow" for the same thing but I still don't think it was his fault but that is racing. I will give Jonathan credit because he's getting aggressive and he's doing what he needs too. After the charge, he was put in the back again. He passed his way up and came in 2nd!!
The main event was exciting and stressful. We decided to put the new gear in his car and it made such a difference! Yes, I did say, "I told you so" to Jim. Jonathan started 4th and worked his way to 1st. He was even pulling away from the 2nd car, Issac, who is an awesome driver and won the last 2 heats. But then, right in front of us, the right rear shock broke and off came the spring (or coil). We had our first "pit stop" and Jim was fantastic!! The other dads or handlers as we call them, jumped in and helped also. That's what I love about this sport...everyone is so eager to help. Jim fixed the shock and off Jonathan went. He got put at the end AGAIN because of the mechanical issue. It didn't take Jonathan long, and he moved up to 3rd and finished in that position.
Jonathan was so upset, he was crying before getting out of the car. I have always told him I don't care where he ends up as long as he drives good and has fun. I told him of course it's cool to win, we all want to win, but you can't win every race and you won't win every race. I was so proud of him and his driving and I think now, he finally gets it. And this is only his 4th race!
